Matt Mayberry has another huge game running the ball, while a handful of future Hoosiers have kept their state championship hopes alive with big wins in the state playoffs over the weekend.

James Brewer, OL – Indianapolis Arlington lost to Lawrence Central two weeks ago, 42-21, in the first round of sectionals to finish its season at 4-6.

Ben Chappell, QB Bloomington (Ind.) High School South – Bloomington South's season came to an unexpected end in the first round of sectionals with a 17-10 loss to Terre Haute South last week. Chappell concluded his senior season completing 165-of-282 passes for 2,359 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also ran for another seven scores.

Cody Faulkner, OL - Hamilton Heights (Ind.) H.S. - Hamilton Heights (8-4) won its fourth straight sectional title with a 35-21 win over Frankfort. Hamilton Heights was paced by quarterback Justin Boser, who completed 18-of-23 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns. Hamilton Heights advances to the regional, where it will face the state's top-ranked Class 3A team, Griffith.

Deonte Mack, DT - Elkhart Central's season ended two weeks ago with a 45-6 loss to Mishawaka in the first round of the sectional. Elkhart Central closed the year 4-6.

Brad Martin, TE – Marion (Ohio) Pleasant H.S. (8-3) saw its seven-game winning streak and its season come to an end with a 48-21 loss to Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (11-0) in the first round of the state playoffs. Pleasant had no answers for CHCA quarterback Doug Browne, who completed 18-of-30 passes for 427 yards and four touchdowns.

Greg Middleton, DE - Indianapolis (Ind.) Pike H.S. - Middleton's Pike squad finished the year 4-6 after a 43-10 loss to Decatur Central two weeks ago.

Matt Mayberry, OLB/FBHinsdale (Ill.) South H.S. – Matt Mayberry ran for 257 yards and three touchdowns as Hinsdale South (10-1) advanced in the Class 7A state playoffs with a 48-28 win over Bradley. Mayberry also passed the 2,000-yard mark in rushing for the year with his effort. Mayberry now has 2,042 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Alex Perry, OT – Morris (Ill.) – Second-ranked Class 6A Morris (11-0) cruised to an easy 32-6 win over Geneva in the state playoffs. Alex Perry and the offensive line paved the way for a pair of 100-yard rushers, as both John Dergo (23 carries, 100 yards, 4 TDs) and Matt Peterson (10 carries, 116 yards) eclipsed the century mark.

Jeff Sanders, TE Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart Griffin H.S. – Top-ranked Sacred Heart Griffin (11-0) blew out Morton, 55-7, in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. Sacred Heart Griffin advanced to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs, where it will face Kankakee McNamara (9-2). SHG dominated Morton, scoring 28 points in the first quarter and leading at halftime, 55-7, before resting the starters in the second half.

Pete Saxon, IL – Plain City (Ohio) Jonathan Alder H.S. (10-1) is still alive in the state playoffs, and will play Lemon-Monroe (10-1) next weekend. Jonathan Alder is the 10th ranked team in the state in Division IV.

Jarrod Smith, OL – Fairborn (Ohio). Fairborn (1-9) concluded its season with a 40-19 loss to Trotwood Madison last week.

Mike Stark, OL – Platteville (Wis.). Platteville finished its season 8-2 after losing to Brodhead/Juda, 66-35, last week in the first round of the state playoffs. Top Stories
