Armon Bassett Weekly Journal

IU-bound guard Armon Bassett, who is playing at Hargrave Military Academy this season, talks about his play in Hargrave's regular season-opener last night and also about finding out the news about injuries to A.J. Ratliff and D.J. White.

Editor's Note: IU commit Armon Bassett, a 6-2, 170-pound guard from Terre Haute, Ind., will be writing a regular journal throughout the course of his season at Hargrave Military Academy. The former Terre Haute South H.S. standout and Indiana All-Star selection intends to sign his national letter of intent today (Nov. 9) to play basketball at Indiana beginning next fall.

What's up Hoosier Nation!?

This is Armon Bassett, the future point guard for IU. I'm just about to wrap up with study hall (on Tuesday night). Tonight was the first game of the season. It didn't start the way I wanted my prep career to start - I only played 10 minutes due to early foul trouble from playing aggressive man-to-man defense. I picked up two fouls in the first three minutes. Then (Hargrave Military) coach (Kevin Keatts) subbed me in again and I got another one almost immediately as I got in the game, so I had to sit for the rest of the half.

I started the second half and within two minutes I got my fourth foul, and had to sit until the four-minute mark of the second half. Even though I only played about ten minutes I was pretty productive – 2-for-3 from the 3-point line, six points, six assists.

Next, we're go to Louisburg, N.C., for a three-day JUCO tourney. Then next weekend we have the tip-off prep school classic in Providence, R.I. I'm looking forward to that.

I don't know if Hoosier Nation has seen's top 25 Post Graduate player rankings, but I was No. 11 overall but the No. 1 point guard. That is alright, but I'm not going to be content with that. I feel like I should be in the top 3 and think I will be in there next time they update the rankings.

Enough about me. I heard about A.J. (Ratliff) and that's bad news. I also heard about D.J. (White) and that's real bad news!! But that just means Marco (Killingsworth) and some of the other players in their positions will have to step up.

We get Thanksgiving Break next weekend, too. I'll be home (in Terre Haute) from the 19th to the 29th so I'll probably be at the home games and practices to hangout with my coaches, teammates and the fans.

Thanks – I'll probably write again after this weekend's tournament.
