Indiana Coach Mike Davis has his fingers crossed that three signed national letters of intent will make their way back to his office this week.
The fall signing period opens Nov. 9, and Davis expects to get signed letters back from both Terre Haute, Ind., point guard Armon Bassett as well as 6'6" Huntsville, Ala., forward Xavier Keeling. Both verbally committed to IU last month, and each is expected to send in his letter of intent today.
But Indiana has a third letter of intent out there as well, and Davis is hoping it comes back this week with the signature of 6'9", 215-pound big man Darrell Arthur, a top-20 player nationally according to Scout.com.
Indiana began recruiting Arthur this summer, and made up ground quickly. He made an official visit to IU in September, and came away impressed with Davis and the IU program, according to his AAU coach, Jazzy Hartwell.
"With Indiana, he really, really liked Coach Davis, and his mom really liked Coach Davis," said Hartwell. "When he went up there to visit, (Davis) kind of won him over. Darrell really liked it there."
Arthur, who also took official visits to Kansas, Baylor, North Carolina and SMU, has been non-committal about whether he'll sign in the fall or wait until the spring. After wrapping up his visits with his trip to Baylor during the last weekend of October, Arthur still appeared to be favoring Indiana and Kansas.
Arthur would be a huge get for Davis and the Hoosiers, the sort of big man who possesses many of the attributes that former IU All-America Jared Jeffries did during his two-year stay in Bloomington. As a junior at Dallas' South Oak Cliff H.S., Arthur averaged 22 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks while leading his team to the Texas Class 4A state championship.
The 12th-ranked player nationally according to Scout.com, Arthur is the highest ranked players in the Class of 2006 who remains uncommitted, and is one of only eight players in Scout.com's top 100 who hasn't verbally committed to a program.
