Gully Picks Illini

Indiana had hoped Antonio Gully could come in and provide some much needed help at cornerback, but the St. Louis area standout is headed to Illinois.

One of Indiana's most coveted cornerback recruits is headed elsewhere.

Antonio Gully, the 6-0, 175-pound cornerback from St. Louis' Cardinal Ritter H.S., reportedly committed to Illinois and Coach Ron Zook earlier this week. Gully took official visits to Illinois (Oct. 28), Indiana (Dec. 2) and Wisconsin (Dec. 9) and had seemingly narrowed his list to Illinois and Indiana.

One of the things that jumped out to Gully about Illinois was the work Illini head coach Ron Zook put into recruiting him.

"He likes the fact Coach Zook has personally recruited him, and it's a new staff," said Cardinal Ritter H.S. Coach Michael Baker. "We teach the kids that it goes a long way when a staff brings in a group of kids. It's kind of like theirs – it's our class, and we want to see them be successful."

Gully certainly has a chance to be a big part of that. Gully had nine interceptions in both his junior and senior seasons, and returned three for touchdowns this past fall.
