In the next-to-last week of official visits for college programs, Indiana will have a pair of recruits on campus this weekend – including one recruit who is only now surfacing as an IU football recruiting target.
HoosierNation.com has learned that Ohio offensive lineman Jarrod Smith and Texas cornerback/wide receiver Richard Council will be in Bloomington this weekend to visit the Hoosier program.
Smith is a 6-4, 278-pound offensive lineman from Fairborn, Ohio, who is Scout.com's 70th-ranked offensive lineman. An offensive tackle at the high school level, Smith is expected to move inside and play either guard or center at Indiana.
"It's all I think about, every day of the week," said Smith, who committed to the Hoosiers in June. "I'm getting through high school with good grades and I'm working hard, but after school and before school, it's all I think about. I can't wait to get there."
Council, meanwhile, is a 6-2, 180-pound cornerback/wide receiver from Newman Smith H.S. in Carrollton, Texas. A two-way player in high school Council earned Class 5A All-District honors as a wide receiver this past fall. Newman Smith H.S. finished the season 3-7 overall, and snapped a two-year, 15-game losing streak earlier in the season.
Council caught 33 passes for 578 yards and six touchdowns during the season, including a seven-catch, 164-yard, two-touchdown game in a 30-23 loss to Pearce H.S. He was especially productive down the stretch of the season, catching 19 passes for 348 yards and five touchdowns in his last four games.
In addition to his exploits on the football field, Council is also a member of Newman Smith's basketball team which is 20-4.
HoosierNation.com will have more on these two official visitors in the coming days, along with the most complete coverage of IU football recruiting heading into the Feb. 1 signing day.
