Focus 2007 - RB Eric Williams

Eric Williams, a 5-foot-8, 170-pound, athlete, from Merrillville, Ind., will be a prospect to watch in 2006. Williams has been on the varsity since the end of his freshman year and he's been the understudy to Notre Dame bound James Aldridge for the past two seasons.

Here's what we know about Eric Williams. He was James Aldridge's back-up and he can flat run. Williams has very good speed, he's tough and versatile. Jeff Yelton won't be able to replace a James Aldridge but Eric Williams will definitely be a capable running back in '06.

"I was moved up to the varsity at the end of my freshman year," Eric Williams said. "I saw some action in play-off games. For the past two seasons, I backed up James (Aldridge) and I also played wide receiver.

"Coach Yelton used my speed by running a lot of reverses, options and bubble screens. When James (Aldridge) was injured last year, I ran for 163 yards on 21 carries against Penn."

Williams has been elected a team captain for the '06 season. Eric averaged 9.7 yards per carry as a junior. Which schools have started to send Williams mail?

"I'm getting a lot of letters from Utah, Washington and most of the MAC schools." Williams said.

"My favorites are Utah, Washington, Washington State, Indiana, Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas.

"I'm not sure on which camps I'll be going to this summer. I'm going to see what happens at the combines this spring."

Williams hasn't received a scholarship offer yet. He told that he carries a 2.8 core GPA in the classroom and plans on majoring in Accounting and Finance. Top Stories
