Mike Davis has agreed in principle to be the next men's basketball coach at UAB, the Birmingham News reported last night.
The former Indiana head coach is expected to be introduced at a formal press conference on UAB's campus on Friday. He reportedly met with interim UAB Athletic Director Richard Margison Thursday evening to work out the contract details, which haven't been announced.
Davis replaces Mike Anderson, who departed late last month to take the head coaching job at Missouri. In four seasons at UAB Anderson compiled an 89-41 record and guided the Blazers to three NCAA tourney berths.
Davis, meanwhile, compiled a 115-79 record in six years in Bloomington, including a 19-12 mark this season.
Speculation will now mount about whether or not any current Hoosiers will follow Davis to UAB. The most likely candidates are sophomores Robert Vaden and D.J. White, both of whom suggested at Davis' Feb. 16 resignation press conference they might follow Davis to his next coaching stop. White is also an Alabama native, having played his high school basketball at Tuscaloosa's Hillcrest H.S.
Since the season concluded White has been participating with his Hoosier teammates in drills, while Vaden has been largely absent.
