Indiana University introduced former Hofstra Coach Felicia Legette Jack as its new head women's basketball coach Wednesday.
A former standout player at Syracuse, the 39-year-old Legette Jack takes over for Sharon Versyp, who departed earlier this month to become the head coach at Purdue.
IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan said Legette Jack signed a five-year contract worth $175,000 annually.
Legette Jack comes to Bloomington after spending the last four seasons at Hofstra, where her teams went 54-63 in four seasons. This past season Hofstra went 19-12 and 12-6 in the Colonial Athletic Conference, recording the second-most wins in school history. The squad also earned the school's first-ever postseason tournament bid, qualifying for the Women's NIT where it advanced to the second round.
In addition to her success at Hofstra, Legette Jack has also had success on the international level. In 2005 she served on Gail Goestenkors' staff for the USA's gold-medal winning Women's 19-and-under World Championships squad that went 8-0 in Tunis, Tunisia.
Before taking over at Hofstra, Legette Jack spent 11 years as a Division I assistant, including the final two at Michigan State. She began her assistant coaching career with two year at Boston College, followed by a seven-year run at her alma mater, Syracuse. While with the Orangewomen's program, she served the team's recruiting coordinator and helped lure two Gatorade Players of the Year to the Big East school.
As a player at Syrcause from 1985-89, Legette Jack was the school's second all-time leading scorer with 1,526 points to go along with 927 rebounds. She was also a three-time All-Big East selection.
