The Indiana Hoosiers have thrown their hat in the ring of pursuit for Westchester, Ill., prospect Evan Turner.
Turner, a top-100 prospect in the class of 2007 from St. Joseph's H.S., is getting heavy attention in the recruiting process and the 6-6, 175-pound swingman has impressed Kelvin Sampson and his Indiana coaching staff.
"Indiana offered last Tuesday," said Turner. "I've talked to Coach Sampson a few times. Most likely they'll make my list but I'm not sure right now who will make it. I'm still worried about trying to see a lot of schools before next year."
Since his AAU team, the Illinois Wolves, did not make it to Bloomington for last weekend's Adidas May Classic, Turner has no scheduled visits to see the Indiana program as of yet, but he hopes to be able to get to town before he makes his final decision.
"Hopefully I can get over there and see what kind of coach Coach Sampson is and learn more about how he runs his team," Turner said. "He's a good guy, but I'm still not sure who is going to make my list."
Turner has already been busy making his unofficial trips and the Hoosiers will have plenty of competition for his services – especially within the Big Ten.
"I went to Wisconsin recently," said Turner, who also went to Ohio State last weekend. "I'm going to see Wake Forest right after the Bob Gibbons tournament. I'm going to try to visit Illinois again.
"In the fall I went to Illinois, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa and Marquette. I'm going to try to get to Iowa again and Indiana sometime this summer. I'm trying to get the close ones out of the way."
With all those visits have come offers for Turner who already has 12 to his credit.
"My list of offers is Indiana, Illinois, Ohio State, Iowa, DePaul, Marquette, Miami, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina State," Turner said.
While Turner has enjoyed traveling with his Wolves AAU team and wants to see Bloomington, he admitted it was nice to have a weekend off and get a little rest this past week.
"It's been good," said Turner. "We need more exposure to make us better players and give us an idea of what we're going to have to face when we do go to college," Turner said. "We're just having fun doing everything."
