Last night combo guard Larry Davis was dancing the night away at his senior prom. Now he is wondering what it will be like to dance in March after deciding where he will spend his college basketball career.
"I'm going to Seton Hall University to play for Coach (Bobby) Gonzalez," Davis told HoosierNation.com Thursday.
Davis originally committed to play for North Carolina State and head coach Herb Sendek, but Sendek's decision to leave the Wolfpack program for Arizona State reopened Davis' recruiting. He narrowed his last to Seton Hall, Indiana and N.C. State before this week, but decided Seton Hall could offer him more than the other two schools on his list.
"The coaches at N.C. State are just coming in new and I really didn't have a chance to get to know them," said Davis. "I didn't know what my role would be for them, that's why I can't go there. Indiana was a great opportunity, but in the long run I just didn't see myself staying there for four years and being happy."
Now the 6-3, 175-pound senior guard from Christ The King Regional HS (Middle Village, NY) will spend his college days playing in the Big East where he will be closer to his family and friends.
"With Seton Hall I know other people going there and all my friends are playing in the Big East," said Davis. "Coach Gonzalez is a great person and I just see myself fitting in at Seton Hall. I know I can have a future there.
"My family is ecstatic because they'll be able to see all my home games."
Davis may not be heading to Bloomington to be a Hoosier, but he does believe fellow New Yorker and four-star center Phil Jones has chosen Indiana to be his college home.
"Me and Phil have been friends for a while now," said Davis. "I told him tonight that I'm not going to Indiana and he told me he understands that I need to do what's best for me. From what I know he is going to Indiana."
