Ray Pledges to BC

Indiana had extended a scholarship offer to Mt. Carmel (Ill.) offensive lineman Arthur Ray soon after he participated in the Hoosiers' summer football camp last month, but the 305-pounder is now off the board.

Arthur Ray is off the board.

The 6-3, 305-pound offensive linemen from Mt. Carmel H.S., who had earned a scholarship offer from Indiana following a strong performance at IU's summer camp, announced today he'll be playing in the ACC for Boston College.

"The visit (to Boston College) went real good," Ray said. "I got a chance to sit down with a few of the linemen there and really enjoyed that."

Ray said that visit left Boston College running neck and neck with Iowa State for his services, but a closer look at each team's rosters pushed him in the direction of BC.

"After I checked over the depth chart and how many linemen they got last year, Boston College was the best fit for me," Ray said.

With the decision now behind him, Ray has turned his attention back to his Mt. Carmel H.S. team and their quest to win one more game than they did a year ago. As a junior, Ray helped lead Mt. Carmel to a perfect regular season and a 13-0 record heading into the state championship game, which they lost, 20-14, to Mt. Prospect.

"I'm hoping for a state championship (this year)," Ray said. "That's what we're working for right now, we're working hard in camp and the team really looks good. We should get it done this year."
