Bloomington, Ind. - IU Coach Terry Hoeppner will head into football camp in two weeks without a key contributor from the last two seasons.

A source close to the program confirmed Aaron Mitchell, a 5-11, 190-pound junior safety, is no longer with the team. No reason was given for Mitchell's departure.

A product of Thornwood H.S. in South Holland, Ill., Mitchell played in 14 games over the past two seasons, starting seven. He totaled 55 combined tackles in those two campaigns, including 30 a season ago. He tallied a career-high seven tackles in Indiana's loss at Michigan State, but proceeded to miss the season's final three games with a hand injury.

While he was a solid contributor in each of the past two seasons, safety is one the deepest on the IU roster. The Hoosiers return senior starters Troy Grosfield and Will Meyers this fall, while redshirt freshman Austin Thomas is also expected to be a big contributor at the position as well.
