Bloomington, Ind. – James Hardy's legal situation was resolved with Tuesday morning's plea agreement, and indications are the issue has been settled on the IU football team as well.
After Tuesday afternoon's practice, IU Coach Terry Hoeppner made it clear the Hoosiers' leading receiver from a year ago won't face any sort of suspension from the football team this fall.
"The fact he's sitting here beside me in my (golf cart) on the field, we're comfortable with where we are, and I look for him to have a great year," Hoeppner said.
Hardy was originally charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend in May. Hardy was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 23, but he agreed to the conditions of a pre-trial diversion agreement with Allen County prosecutors that will result in the issue being removed from his record in six months.
As has been the case all fall, Hardy was at practice Tuesday afternoon. With his legal issues now behind him, he's ready to turn his focus to helping the Hoosiers improve on last year's 4-7 mark.
"I just focus on football and focus on the upcoming season," Hardy said Tuesday.
Hardy had a huge redshirt freshman season, leading IU with 61 receptions for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's the marquee name of a deep and talented group of wideouts that should be the team's strength this fall.
"That receiving corps is a special group," Hoeppner said. "He's the leader of that group, and I'm really pleased with their progress. The receivers had a really good practice."
No Disciplinary Action Expected For Hardy
