A couple of Coach Terry Hoeppner's 2007 football recruits turned in some big plays, but at different positions than the ones they're expected to play in Bloomington. has the details, the results and the statistics from those contests...

Dane Conwell, LB, Pittsburgh (Penn.) Upper St. Clair H.S. – Conwell's squad opens its season Sept. 1 against Penn-Trafford H.S.

Max Dedmond, TE, Evansville (Ind.) Central H.S. – Dedmond did a little bit of everything to lead No. 5 Evansville Central to a 22-13 win over Evansville Mater Dei Friday night. Defensively Dedmond intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown to give Central a 15-0 lead midway through the second half. Then, with Central clinging to a 15-13 lead in the fourth quarter, Dedmond caught four passes for 52 yards on Central's game-clinching touchdown drive. Dedmond, who plays fullback on offense, finished with six catches for 90 yards as Central beat Mater Dei for the first time in nine years.

Matt Ernest, WR, Crown Point (Ind.) H.S. – Ernest is coming to IU to play wide receiver, but it was a big defensive play that he turned in that helped Crown Point improve to 2-0 with a 34-20 win over Hobart Friday night. With Crown Point leading 14-7 early in the second half, Ernest intercepted a Hobart pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. Another Hobart turnover led to another Crown Point score, and Ernest's squad held on late for the win. No offensive statistics for Ernest were available.

Sidney Glover, S, Warren G. Harding (Ohio) H.S. – Harding rolled to a 56-6 win over Cleveland JFK H.S. in both team's season opener. A traditional Ohio powerhouse, Harding is trying to bounce back from a 3-7 season a year ago that has many thinking the job security of head coach Thomas McDaniels could be in jeopardy if they don't bounce back in a big way this season.

Darius Johnson, LB, Highland Park (Mich.) Community H.S. – Johnson did a little bit of everything to lead Highland Park (1-0) to a 44-0 win over Lutheran North Friday night. On offense Johnson rushed 13 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns, and on defense he added a team-high seven tackles in the team's season-opening victory.

Tyler Replogle, LB, Centerville (Ohio) H.S. – Centerville opened its season with a 42-8 win over Fairfield Friday night. No statistics were available. A state playoff qualifier in each of the past two seasons, Centerville is looking to compete for the Greater Western Ohio Conference title this season after finishing second to Wayne H.S. a year ago. Wayne H.S. might not be Centerville's primary competition this season, though, after falling in its season opener 52-14 to St. Xavier.

Zach Walker, RB, Plantation (Fla.) H.S. – Plantation didn't play last night and opens its regular season Aug. 31 with a match-up against Stranahan H.S. Top Stories
