Kelvin Sampson's first IU recruiting class will be a top-10 group.

With Eric Gordon's commitment to IU last week, Indiana climbed to No. 7 in's most recent team rankings for the 2007 class. Indiana is one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 11, joining Purdue (No. 2), Michigan State (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 4) and Michigan (No. 11).

Gordon is one of four players who has verbally committed to Sampson, and the 6-3, 185-pound shooting guard from Indianapolis' North Central H.S. is clearly the marquee name in the group. The second-ranked player overall behind USC-bound O.J. Mayo, Gordon is joined by Chicago products Brandon McGee and Jamarcus Ellis along with California big man Eli Holman as players who intend to sign IU letters of intent during the November signing period.

The 6-9, 210-pound Holman, meanwhile, is ranked No. 82 overall by and is the 18th-ranked center in the class, while the 6-7, 210-pound McGee is ranked No. 93 overall and No. 23 among power forwards. The 6-5, 200-pound Ellis is playing at Chipola J.C. this winter after a standout prep career at Chicago Westinghouse H.S.

Indiana still has one scholarship available for the '07 class.

The Big Ten as a whole, meanwhile, is enjoying one of its best recruiting seasons in recent memory. A year ago only Ohio State was ranked in's top 10 team rankings (No. 2), and there was only one other conference school ranked in the top 20 (Michigan State – No. 12). In 2004, Wisconsin (No. 20) was the league's only team that cracked's top 20 team rankings. Top Stories
