Two trips down and one more to go for Diauntae Morrow.
The 6-0, 185-pound safety from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward's H.S. was in Bloomington over the weekend for his official visit, the second of three straight trips to Big Ten programs. Morrow was in Iowa City a week ago and heads to Champaign, Ill., to visit Ron Zook's Illinois program this weekend.
It's become apparent Morrow will be suiting up for one of the "I" programs in the Big Ten, but will it be Indiana, Illinois or Iowa?
"None of them are really ahead of the others right now," Morrow said after returning home from his IU visit. "I'll have to sit down with my mother and my father and talk about it a little bit more."
Making Morrow's decision more difficult is the fact all three programs have talked about using him the same way. A player with 4.7 speed in the 40, each Big Ten program has talked about him playing safety or possibly even nickel back in their defensive scheme. Each also thinks Morrow has the ability to play early in his career, an enticing possibility for the standout.
"Indiana talked about me playing early if I go there and get the system down," Morrow said. "If I work hard I'll have a chance to play early, and there are basically two positions they think I can help out at."
This weekend's visit was Morrow's third trip to Bloomington, coming on the heels of a couple of earlier unofficial visits. Unlike his trip to Iowa the weekend before Morrow didn't have an opportunity to see a men's basketball game, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
"Since there wasn't a basketball game, I got to hang out with the players more this week than last week, which I liked," Morrow said.
Morrow also had a chance to meet with IU President Dr. Adam Herbert during his trip and sat down with IU Coach Terry Hoeppner as well Sunday. The Hoosier coach let Morrow know how big of a piece he thinks he is in IU's recruiting efforts for the '07 class.
The IU coaching staff isn't the only group trying to lure Morrow to Bloomington. Indiana already has a pair of players from St. Edward's (Joe Kleinsmith and Ryan Marando), both of whom would like to see their former high school teammate in Bloomington next fall.
"They are pulling for me to go to Indiana," Morrow said. "That helps, but it boils down to which school fits me best."
That won't come clear until after his visit to Illinois this weekend, and probably into next month.
"I'll probably decide the first week of January," Morrow said.
