D-day came a day early for Fred Jones.

The 6-5, 235-pound defensive end from Sandy Creek H.S. in Tyrone, Ga., told HoosierNation.com he has verbally committed to Indiana, picking the Hoosiers over Marshall.

"I committed to Indiana today," Jones said Tuesday.

Jones said the reputation of IU's business school was a big factor in his decision, as was the impact he can make early on IU's defensive line.

"They have the whole package on defense," Jones said. "They run four defensive ends, and they have two. I could be with the rotations with the four. I've got that chance, and I can go in there, do well, show them what I can do, and I'll have a chance to play."

Jones recorded 47 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and seven sacks as a senior, earning him county defensive player of the year honors.
