According to a published report, freshman forward Xavier Keeling will transfer from IU at the end of the semester.
The Indianapolis Star reported this morning that Keeling informed IU Coach Kelvin Sampson of his intentions during regularly scheduled individual meetings between players and the staff at the close of the season.
A native of Hunstville, Ala., Keeling averaged 1.8 points per game as a freshman and played in 22 of IU's 33 games.
Keeling's departure frees up one scholarship for the 2007-08 season. That scholarship will likely go to Chipola (Fla.) Junior College big man DeAndre Thomas, who verbally committed to IU in the fall but has been waiting to see if a slot would open on the IU roster.
A junior college teammate of soon-to-be Hoosier Jamarcus Ellis, Thomas is a 6-8, 303-pounder who averaged 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds this season at Chipola.
"He's a low post scoring machine, but he's so unselfish down there, he's trying to get teammates involved when he gets double teamed," Chipola Coach Greg Heiar said. "He's improved a lot of areas of his game."
