Recruiting profiles from Friday's Assembly Hall action:
b>Colt Ryan, Batesville – finished with seven points and six rebounds on 3-10 shooting, including 1-5 from behind the 3-point arc…went scoreless in the first half, attempting only two shots…was much better in the second half, getting all of his points and rebounds in the game's final 16-minute half…scored first basket with 11:10 left in second half on 14-foot jumper after missing first four shots…much more active in the second half, handling the point at times as well as playing off the ball…a very good shooting stroke and a player who can score points in bunches at times…at this point, probably has a ways to go if he's going to be a Big Ten caliber recruit.
Stephan Van Treese, Lawrence North – Finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and a block while shooting 5-14 from the field…ran on break and dunked in transition to put Indiana Elite up 10-5… struggled a bit in the first half, losing the handle a couple of times going up for layups…can tell he can handle the ball, put it in the floor better than most big men…runs the floor very well…had four points (2-of-6 shooting), four rebounds, three steals and one block in first half.
D.J. Byrd, Crawfordsville – Finished with 11 points and four rebounds with shooting just 4-13 from the field, including 1-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc…goes hard to the basket…played the 2, 3 and 4 positions for his team…works hard on defense on the perimeter…finished first half with six points (2-8 FGs, 0-5 3s, 2-2 FTs), two rebounds, one assist and one block…started second half with a 3-pointer from top of key, then an inside move for a reverse layup…said he still has two scholarship offers – Indiana and Xavier…versatility is his greatest strength.
Angel Garcia, East Chicago – There's no questioning the wide array of skills that the 6'11" East Chicago (Ind.) H.S. standout possesses…Tremendous ball handler for his size, very good looking stroke from behind the 3-point arc…runs the floor very well…can try to do a little too much, often looking to take it end to end after coming down with a defensive rebounds…spends so much time on the perimeter that the West Indy AAU team matched up a 5'4" guard against him for much of the game…
Notes: IU players DeAndre Thomas, Armon Bassett, JaMarcus Ellis, Lance Stemler, Ben Allen and D.J. White were among the on-lookers for the Indiana Elite's 16-and-under game at Assembly Hall Friday night. White and Thomas served as scorekeepers for the contest… Eric Gordon also showed up midway through the first half and sat courtside with White and Thomas…according to the rosters distributed for this weekend's event, both Ray McCallum, Jr., and IU verbal commit Eshaunte "Bear" Jones will be playing with Devin Ebanks' Team Takeover 17-and-under team this weekend. Team Takeover plays its first game Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Assembly Hall… D.J. Byrd and Stephen VanTreese were among approximately 6-7 Indiana Elite players who were out shooting at Assembly Hall approximately 50 minutes before their first-round tourney game against the Michigan Mustags got underway. The Mustangs weren't quite as early as for the contest – five minutes before tip-off, the Mustangs had only four players on the floor, before three more arrived…former IU graduate assistant Louis Twigg was working with the Indiana Elite program.
