The options for Pompano Beach, Fla.., standout David Blackwell are plentiful.
The 6-1 ½, 208-pounder is a quarterback on his Cardinal Gibbons' H.S. team, but could wind up playing at a variety of different spots in college, and on either side of the ball. Possibilities include quarterback, running back, wide receiver, linebacker or safety for the standout who ran a 4.66 in the 40 at the Scout.com Combine in Miami.
"I'm being recruited by most schools as an athlete," said Blackwell.
One of those schools is Indiana, which has targeted Blackwell as well as his high school teammates David Williams and Jeremy Longo. Blackwell said Indiana officially offered him a scholarship about 1 ½ weeks ago.
"They've been showing me a lot of interest," Blackwell said of the Hoosiers' recruiting efforts. "They say that on defense I'm a ball hawk, and how unselfish I am, that I'm a team player."
Indiana, though, isn't the only school that's taken notice. Blackwell said he's been getting plenty of interest from schools such as LSU, Arkansas, Central Florida and Ole Miss, and he's been offered by Indiana, Ole Miss, UCF, Florida International and Florida Atlantic.
Others are looking, and they'll likely have plenty of time to decide whether or not to offer a scholarship. Blackwell said he's in no hurry to make a college choice.
"I really don't have any favorites right now," Blackwell said. "I'll probably wait and see what happens, and wait until after my high school season is over before I make a decision."
While his college future appears to be in football, Blackwell is also a talented basketball player as well. A combo guard, Blackwell was a third-team All-State pick by the Florida Sportswriters Association and a second-team All-Broward County pick.
