IU verbal commits Bud Mackey and Eshaunte Jones solidified their standing among the nation's best preps in Scout.com's most recent Class of 2008 rankings, which were released Wednesday.
Mackey, a 6-2, 180-pound point guard from Scott County H.S. in Georgetown, Ky., is ranked 44th overall and is considered the nation's fifth-best point guard. He led his prep team to a state championship last season while averaging 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds a 4.0 assists per game.
The 6-4, 170-pound Jones, meanwhile, comes in at No. 73 and has been tabbed as the country's 16th-best shooting guard. As a senior at Ft. Wayne's Northside H.S. he averaged 27.7 points, ranking him third in the state behind IU-bound guard Eric Gordon and Bishop Luers H.S. freshman DeShaun Thomas, both of whom averaged 28.9 points per game. Jones was at his best from behind the 3-point arc, where he knocked down a state-best 97 3-pointers and shot 41.8 percent.
Other IU targets figure prominently into Scout.com's Top 100. Wing Devin Ebanks maintained his No. 10 ranking, while Tyler Zeller (No. 18), Angel Garcia (No. 19), Mike Dunigan (No. 20), Darius Miller (No. 34), Eloy Vargas (No. 46), Steve Tchiengang (No. 50), Kevin Jones (No. 70), Dashan Harris (No. 71) and Draymond Green (No. 72) are also ranked in the top 100.
