Bloomington, Ind. – Indiana has a verbal commitment from one player from Naples' Golden Gate H.S., and it might be very close to landing another.
Defensive back Peter St. Fort pledged to the Hoosiers on Friday, and Golden Gate Coach Dave Tanner thinks 6'2", 180-pound wide receiver J.D. Woods might not be too far behind.
"He might be committing pretty soon to (Indiana)," Tanner said. "I think it's a real strong possibility. I know some others are in the mix, but just because of the conversations he's had with Billy (Lynch) I think it's a very strong possibility."
Lynch has been recruiting a trio of Golden Gate H.S. standouts for the last several months. In addition to St. Fort and Woods, Lynch has also offered a scholarship to defensive end Anthony Mains as well. Like Woods, Mains also has IU among his favorites at this point in the process.
While Mains continues to be a highly-coveted recruit by IU, it's Woods who appears closer to coming to a decision in the not-too-distant future. Woods said he and St. Fort have been best friends for many years, and his teammate's pledge could very well play a role in his decision.
"It does help Indiana, because it helps me know I'd have a buddy up there, and we've been friends for many years," said Woods, who caught 31 passes for 523 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.
Woods is a player who's drawn recruiting interest nationwide. He said Indiana, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Louisville, South Florida, Pitt and Wake Forest are among the schools he's considering. But the Hoosiers appear to have separated themselves in his mind.
"Indiana is at the top," Woods said.
The fact that St. Fort is Bloomington-bound is a big plus for the Hoosiers, but so is the connection Woods has made with Lynch. Lynch is not only Woods' recruiting coach, but would be his position coach as well at IU, and that's an idea Woods likes.
"He's a great dude," Woods said. "I really liked him as soon as I met him. I felt like he could be my coach. As I met him, I want him as my coach. He's a great guy, a great recruiting coach and position coach. He has kept Indiana in the race. His personality has helped me look at Indiana a lot."
Could Woods Be Next to Commit?
