Bloomington, Ind. – D.J. White has been tabbed as a preseason All-Big Ten choice and IU has been picked to finish second in the Big Ten by a 22-member media panel, the Big Ten Conference announced Sunday.
Coach Kelvin Sampson's team was picked to finish second to Michigan State, while reigning conference champion Ohio State was picked third. The league announces only the top three vote getters.
Michigan State returns all five starters from a team that went 23-12 a year ago, headlined by preseason Big Ten Player of the Year choice Drew Neitzel. Indiana, meanwhile, returns three starters from last year's 21-11 squad, and has also welcomed a six-person recruiting class that is headlined by freshman Eric Gordon.
Ohio State went 35-4 overall and 15-1 in league play a year ago while winning its second straight league crown, but lost four starters from a team that advanced to the NCAA title game, including NBA lottery picks Greg Oden and Mike Conley, Jr.
In addition to White and Neitzel, Illinois' Shaun Pruitt, Ohio State's Jamar Butler and Penn State's Geary Claxton were also named preseason All-Big Ten. Neitzel was a first-team choice at the end of last season, White was a second-team pick and both Pruitt and Claxton were third team selections.
