Bloomington, Ind. – One of the country's premiere 2007 recruits is expected to visit Bloomington next week.
The Miami Herald reported earlier this week that Doug Wiggins, a 6-0, 188-pound freshman defensive back at Miami (Fla.) planned to transfer from the Hurricane program after playing in only four games this past season as a true freshman.
The paper reported that Wiggins intended to make a trip to both IU and Western Michigan, and HoosierNation.com has learned Wiggins will likely visit Bloomington next week. He's also planning on making a trip to Western Michigan – possibly this weekend - where extended family member E.J. Biggers is a starter in the Bronco secondary.
A standout quarterback and cornerback at North Miami Beach H.S., Wiggins was Scout.com's 17th-ranked cornerback nationally in last year's recruiting class. He picked Miami over scholarship offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina, among others.
Despite his lofty ranking and the fact he graduated from high school early so he could enroll at Miami last January, he played sparingly this fall. He saw some time on special teams early in the year before being suspended for unspecified reasons midway through the season.
