Bloomington, Ind. – No news on Armon Bassett doesn't necessarily mean good news.
On Monday, IU Coach Kelvin Sampson said there's no update on the status of the Hoosiers' sophomore point guard, who sat on the IU bench in street clothes for the Kentucky game after being suspended for violating unspecified team rules.
"That's game to game," Sampson said in reference to Bassett's suspension during Monday's Big Ten Teleconference. "He has some work to do before he gets back. I'm not sure when that will be."
Before missing the UK contest, Bassett had started all eight games and was averaging 11.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 45.9 percent from 3-point range.
It's also unclear how long freshman Eric Gordon will be out as well. Sampson did say Gordon "said he felt a lot better" on Sunday, and the IU coach is hopeful he'll be ready to go for Saturday's match-up against Western Carolina.
"I think the big thing for him is getting in a stance and sliding laterally," Sampson said. "I think his pain is dissipating standing up just walking forward, but when he gets down in a stance he has a pain that shoots up the left side of his hip to the lower part of his back.
"Once that goes away, I think he can play."
Gordon, who was injured in the first half of last Monday's 84-72 win over Tennessee State, leads the Hoosiers in scoring (24.3) and is shooting 50 percent (22-of-44) from 3-point range.
Status of Gordon, Bassett Still Unclear
