BLOOMINGTON – Despite a published report to the contrary, Washington State Coach Tony Bennett told ESPN.com this morning that he hasn't been offered the Indiana coaching position.
FoxSports.com's Jeff Goodman reported Friday night that IU had offered its head coaching job to Bennett, who wrapped up his second season in Pullman, Wash., Thursday night. But ESPN.com's Andy Katz talked with Bennett Saturday morning and he denied he's been offered the IU position.
"I haven't had one conversation with [Indiana], and so, no, I haven't been offered the job," Bennett told Katz.
Katz went on to say that his sources indicate IU plans to fill the position by Thursday. In addition to Bennett, former Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery would also be on the short list of IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan.
According to Katz, both of those coaches are also possibilities at Cal, where Ben Braun was dismissed earlier this week.
