BLOOMINGTON – Tom Crean is Indiana's pick to lead the IU basketball program, but what does that mean for one-time IU signee Terrell Holloway?
Holloway has been granted a release from his IU letter of intent, and like everyone else found out that Crean will be taking over the Hoosier program Tuesday. That decision figures to enhance IU's chances of having a shot at re-signing the Hempstead, N.Y., product later this month during the spring signing period.
"Indiana is still in the running," Holloway said Wednesday afternoon. "I'm guessing they'll contact me pretty quick."
Crean is already familiar with the Harmony Prep standout who originally signed with the Hoosiers in the fall. Holloway said Marquette showed some interest in him last spring before things cooled off in the summer. But after he was granted his release from his IU letter on intent following Kelvin Sampson's departure, the Golden Eagles entered the picture again.
"During the NCAA (Tournament) it kind of picked back up," Holloway said.
Halloway said he liked what he saw from both Crean and the Golden Eagles' program, and that made them a prime contender to sign him once he backed away from IU.
"As far as him coach, he allows his guys to get out there and play," Holloway said. "He's had guys like Dominic James and Jerel McNeal, those guys were able to get out there and get up and down."
James and McNeal are still at the Big East school, but Crean is now in Bloomington. While he'll have a slew of things to do during his first couple of weeks on the job, one of his top priorities figures to be getting in touch with Holloway and convincing him to stick with his original pledge.
It won't necessarily be an easy sell, but Indiana is still on Holloway's list.
"At this point I don't want to talk too much about (recruiting)," Holloway said. "For Indiana University, I guess Tom Crean was the best available coach to get. I can say that's great for Indiana University."
