BLOOMINGTON – According to a published report, Eric Gordon is headed to the NBA.
Citing an unnamed source, the Indianapolis Star reported Friday the 6'4", 205-pound Indianapolis product will make himself eligible for the draft after one season in Bloomington. Indiana University is expected to issue a statement today that Gordon will make talk about his decision Monday.
A first-team All-Big Ten choice and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Gordon averaged a conference-best 20.9 points per game along with 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Gordon is expected to be the Hoosiers' third NBA lottery pick in the last eight years, joining Kirk Haston (16th pick in 2001 draft) and Jared Jeffries (11th pick in 2002 draft). But unlike those two, Gordon is expected to go in the top 10, and possibly higher. One NBA scout told HoosierNation.com Gordon is considered a top-five choice by NBA teams.
Indiana hasn't had a player drafted in the top 10 of the Draft since Calbert Cheaney went No. 6 in 1993. IU's last top five pick, meanwhile, was Isiah Thomas, who went No. 2 in 1981.
