IU Offer Coming Soon for Sophomore Wideout

Bloomington – Indiana is waiting on extending a scholarship offer to Pike H.S. wide receiver Dyjuan Lewis, but only because it has to.

NCAA rules prevent teams from extending scholarship offers until September of a player's junior season, and that's the only thing keeping IU Coach Bill Lynch's staff from making its interest in the 6-4, 190-pound wide receiver official. But Pike H.S. Coach Derek Moyers said Indiana has made it clear that it wants his standout sophomore.

"They told me he's going to get an offer from us as soon as they can," Moyers said.

Indiana isn't the only school to deliver that message. Cincinnati has also let it be known it will do the same for a wideout that caught 29 passes for 414 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore.

There's plenty to like about Lewis, who combines excellent size with great speed (4.5 in the 40). Moyers also points to his body control and the fact he catches everything with his hands as attributes that college coaches like.

"He has a lot of intangibles that you can't really coach," Moyers said.

He combines that with an approach to the game and the position that Moyers says trumps his God-given abilities.

"I think his greatest attribute is his competitiveness," Moyers said. "He flat wants to win everything. It doesn't matter what it is. Sometimes it can be a detriment to him because he's so hard on himself."

He's also pretty hard on opposing defenses. After a very good sophomore season Moyers expects Lewis to continue to develop as an even more potent weapon as he continues to mature and learn the game.

"He runs good routes now, but I think his route running will get better, and I think he can become a better blocker," Moyers said. "He's still young, so his understanding of the game and the concepts of what we're trying to do offensively will come. But he has two years of high school football to go, so that will get better.

"As we work with him and continue to develop him as a total receiver, the sky is the limit for this young man."
