The 6-0, 170-pound point guard from Bloomington (Ind.) South H.S. has climbed to No. 8 among the nation's point guards and No. 92 overall in the newest national rankings, released Saturday.

He joins Tipton (Ind.) forward Derek Elston (No. 81) and South Kent (Conn.) Prep shooting guard Maurice Creek (No. 97) as IU commits ranked among the top 100 for 2009. All four are considered four star recruits.

Indiana's fourth commit – Loveland (Ohio) power forward Bobby Capobianco – is a three-star commit who is ranked as the 45th-best power forward in the class.

Indiana is one of only three teams with at least three top-100 commits in the 2009 class along with North Carolina (5) and Illinois (3).

While Indiana has four players in place for 2009, it will likely add at least one more player to that group. Coach Tom Crean's biggest need remains a player with size who can provide a presence in the paint.

"With the young people that we have committed, we know we have to get somebody who's of bigger size who can score and rebound," Crean said. "That has to happen. If we had one scholarship to give for next year, that's what we'd look at."

At this point, though, most of the top-100 players who are mentioning Indiana are of the small forward variety. Christian Watford (No. 47) and Roger Franklin (No. 49) have both been targeted by the Indiana staff and given scholarship offers. Watford is a 6-7 ½, 215-pounder who was in Bloomington for the Adidas May Classic and took an unofficial visit. Franklin, meanwhile, is a bit smaller at 6-5 and 195 pounds, but the Duncanville (Texas) H.S. star is a hard-nosed physical player who has been adding a perimeter game to an already polished interior presence.
