Bloomington – These are busy days for Hargrave Military Academy Coach Kevin Keatts.
With a roster that features double-digit Division I recruits, Keatts is doing a whole lot more than preparing for the upcoming season. During the first week of the NCAA's contact period, Keatts' program welcomed coaches from 35 different schools during a three-day stretch.
"It gets busy, but it could be the other way around – you could have no one calling," Keatt said. "We're excited because the kids are getting seen. So we're not complaining."
One of the players schools are extremely interested in is forward Chris Braswell. The 6'8", 225-pounder from Washington, D.C., starred on Hargrave's undefeated team last season and will now be spending a second post-graduate year in Keatts' program.
Braswell took his official visit to Xavier this past weekend, and also has trips scheduled to Maryland (Sept. 20), Indiana, Virginia Tech (Oct. 4) and Charlotte. There have been reports that Braswell re-scheduled his IU visit from Sept. 27 to Oct. 11, but Keatts said the last he heard was that Braswell would be headed to IU on the final weekend of September.
Whichever weekend he is coming, Braswell remains a possibility for the Hoosiers' last scholarship. He averaged 18 points and 11.5 rebounds last season for Keatts' team, which went 29-0 and won the National Prep School championship.
Indiana remains in the market for a big man, with Bawa Manuri, Angus Brandt and Braswell appearing to be the possibilities. While the 7'0" Manuri and the 6'11" Brandt are centers, Keatts believes Braswell is better suited if he's given a little more flexibility on the frontline.
"I think he's going to be a ‘4'," Keatts said of Braswell. "In a pinch he could play some ‘5' for you because he has legitimate size, he can rebound the position. But I think he's a four."
Keatts said all indications are that Braswell will sign during the early signing period in November.
