Bloomington – Injuries continue to wreak havoc on IU's football team as it tries to find a way to bring an end to its five-game losing streak.
IU Coach Bill Lynch said second-string guard Dennis Zeigler will undergo season-ending knee surgery on Wednesday, while fellow guards Andrew McDonald and Cody Faulkner haven't been cleared by the medical staff to return to practice after being "dinged" in Saturday's 55-13 loss to Illinois.
Junior wide receiver Andrew Means, meanwhile, is also expected to be held out of practice today due to a hand injury. The team's second-leading receiver with 25 catches, Means has a cast on his hand and Lynch said his availability for Saturday won't be clear until later this week.
If there's any good news on the injury front it's with quarterback Kellen Lewis, who appears to have a chance to return to the field this weekend. Lewis suffered a high ankle sprain late in the first of IU's 45-9 loss to Iowa, and he didn't make the trip to Champaign for the Hoosiers' 55-13 loss to the Illini.
"Kellen did more yesterday than he did last week," Lynch said. "We'll still use the term questionable, but certainly more hopeful. I don't know how much he'll do (at practice) today. But he did more yesterday."
