Bloomington – Tests on Devan Dumes' injured right ankle didn't reveal any fractures, but his availability is very much in doubt for Tuesday's game at Ohio State.
The Hoosiers' leading scorer was injured early in the first half of Saturday's loss at Illinois and was only able to return to the Hoosier bench on crutches. IU Coach Tom Crean said Monday that Dumes didn't practice Sunday and he was unsure whether or not Dumes would be able to return to the practice floor Monday before the team departs for Columbus.
"It's a matter of his comfort level and what he can do rehabilitation-wise right now and how much weight he can put on it," Crean said. "I would say it's day-to-day to a game-time decision at the very best."
While Dumes' 12.8 points/game will be missed if he's unable to go, Crean said it's his role on the defensive end that would be missed as much as anything.
"He gets the assignment of the other team's best player," Crean said. "In the sense of leadership from the defensive end, there's no question (we would miss him).
"He understands the game, he's getting better at all facets, he's shooting the ball better all the time. The defensive edge, if we don't have him in that game, there's no question with (OSU's) athleticism, length…that will hurt us if we don't have him."
