Bloomington – Devan Dumes' availability for Sunday's Illinois game remains a mystery.
Addressing a handful of media members following Saturday's practice, IU Coach Tom Crean wasn't ready to shed any light on whether or not Dumes' suspension will be lifted to allow him to play against the Illini.
"I don't want to over-dramatize it," Crean said. "I'm talked to (IU Athletics Director) Fred Glass, I've talked with the league office, and we want to do the right thing for everybody. At the same time, there are steps all along the way which we put in place."
Exactly what those steps are to reinstatement, though, have been kept internal by Crean and his staff.
Crean suspended Dumes indefinitely on Monday following a couple incidents in last Sunday's game against Michigan State, and the Hoosiers' leading scorer watched Tuesday's 62-54 loss at Minnesota from the sidelines. The junior guard has been practicing with the team all week and has been involved in all other team-related activities other than playing in the game.
"I'm not trying to be evasive, I'm not trying to hold it from you, and I'm not trying to play a strategy game," Crean said. "We're going day by day with this."
