Bloomington – One of Indiana's top recruiting targets from the 2012 class will be in Bloomington on Friday for an unofficial visit.
Broad Ripple (Ind.) H.S. freshman wing Ronald Patterson is scheduled to make the trip from Indianapolis on Friday to sit down with IU Coach Tom Crean and the staff. It's just the most recent trip to town for the 6'4" standout who also made a couple of unofficial visits during the season.
The Indiana stop-off will be one of three unofficials for Patterson this week. Thanks to a break in the AAU schedule for his Spiece Indy Stars team, Patterson is also slated to be in West Lafayette today to talk with Coach Matt Painter's staff, and he'll conclude his trio of visits Sunday with a sit-down with Ohio State Coach Thad Matta in Columbus.
Both Indiana and Purdue offered Patterson scholarships during the season, and now Ohio State is set to do the same and make it official when Patterson is in town.
Patterson has been shining in the opening month of the AAU season, helping lead the Spiece Indy Stars to a series of deep runs in various events. Patterson was named to the all-tournament team at the Pitt Jam Fest two weeks ago after the Stars advanced to the semifinals, and he followed that up with another big weekend at the Hensley Memorial Run and Slam All-Star Classic in Ft. Wayne.
In Ft. Wayne, the Stars advanced to the 15-and-under finals before falling to the Spiece Indy Heat in the championship game, 74-67, to close out a 7-1 weekend. Patterson was particularly good in tournament play, averaging 17.3 in the four elimination contests. That included a 25-point effort in a four-point win over Spiece Mo-Kan in the round of 16, and then a 21-point performance in the championship game.
A couple of Patterson's AAU teammates, Jeremy Hollowell and Kellon Thomas, have also had more schools starting to show interest.
Hollowell, a 6'6" wing from Lawrence Central H.S., is already hearing from Xavier, Minnesota, Penn State and Wake Forest. A very good 3-point shooter for a youngster with his size, Hollowell scored in double figures in five of the Stars' games this past weekend, including a 19-point effort in a tourney opening win against the Cincinnati Royals.
Thomas, meanwhile, started at point guard as a freshman at Southport H.S. and mans that role as well for the Indy Stars. The 5'10" freshman had Crean out to see him work out last month, and he's also attracted the attention of Cincinnati, Xavier and Wake Forst.
Patterson, Thomas, Hollowell and the rest of the Indy Stars will be in Bloomington next weekend to compete in the Adidas May Classic.
