Bloomington – The 2011 class is a loaded one in the state of Indiana, and IU Coach Tom Crean has extended a scholarship offer to another member of that group.
Hoosier Nation has learned that Crean offered 6'6" Hamilton Heights (Ind.) wing Austin Etherington on Saturday. Etherington, who missed a year of basketball following microfracture knee surgery in 2008, averaged 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during the final 13 games of his sophomore season.
It was no secret that Crean has been keeping close tabs on Etherington, who is playing on Mark Adams' Team Indiana Elite 16-and-under squad this summer. A gifted perimeter shooter who also isn't afraid to mix it up when he needs to, Etherington has drawn some comparisons to one of Crean's former Marquette greats, Steve Novak.
Etherington has been on IU's campus already this spring for an unofficial visit, and is also getting interest from Butler (where his father, Brett, played), Purdue, Xavier and Northwestern, among others.
Etherington joins Pike's Marquis Teague, Washington's Cody Zeller and Gary Wallace's Branden Dawson as in-staters in the 2011 class who have now been offered by IU.
