Indiana is attempting to land talented big man

Patrick Ewing can do it all. He's big, athletic, and can play on the perimeter or in the post. Indiana desperately needs to add some size to their roster for next season and Ewing's versatility would fit perfectly into Mike Davis' offense.

Patrick Ewing has all the tools to be a great player. Ewing came to National Christian Academy as a post player who liked to play with his back to the basket. Coach Trevor Brown worked with Ewing and now his versatility is his biggest asset.

"He's 6'8 and athletic and versatile. He can put the ball on the floor, shoot the three, and he's a developing post player, who rebounds well and blocks shots," Brown said. "What's unique is he's 6'8 and can do all those things."

Ewing gave a strong performance last night scoring 30 points and adding 12 boards in a 71-49 shellacking of West Nottingham Academy. West Nottingham features 6'9 Connecticut recruit Josh Boone, who could not contain the multi-talented Ewing.

Although Ewing is playing great basketball, Brown knows he can continue to improve.

"When he came here he was a post player. I've given him the confidence he needs to be a good combo player. Now we're working more on his inside moves."

The sky is the limit for this talented player who is being strongly pursued by Indiana.

"Indiana's recruiting him as a Jared Jeffries type player. I think in college his natural position is the three (small forward), but he has size to play in the post," Brown said. "He likes Indiana a lot."

Texas, Virginia, Louisville, Georgetown, and Georgia are also in the hunt for Ewing.

Ewing wants to play both forward spots and is looking for a school that will give him the chance to help the team in a variety of ways. Also, he wants to learn from a coach with a reputation of developing versatile big men; an area Coach Davis has excelled at in his first three years at IU. Davis developed Kirk Haston, Jared Jeffries, and now Jeff Newton under his pro-style offense during his three years at Indiana.

Indiana is trying to set up a visit for Ewing sometime soon. Top Stories
