Bloomington – It's going to be another busy weekend of official visitors for the IU football team.
With Indiana's high-profile basketball game against Kentucky set for Saturday at Assembly Hall, more than half of the players that have already verbally committed to Coach Bill Lynch's staff plan on making their officials this weekend.
We've confirmed that the following players will be in town this weekend: linebacker Matt Zakrzewski, linebacker Ishmael Thomas, running back Xavier Whitaker, defensive tackle Pete Bachman, safety Drew Hardin, wide receiver Logan Young, wide receiver Tim O'Conner, offensive lineman Cody Evers, safety Shaquille Jefferson and running back Matt Perez.

Victor Oladipo, 6-4, 100, Dematha Catholic (Md.) H.S. – DeMatha (4-0) continued its winning ways Wednesday with a 71-59 win over previously unbeaten Coolidge H.S. Oladipo was one of four DeMatha players in double figures with 11, while Quinn Cook led the way with 22. Oladipo was coming off his best game of the season, totaling 18 points and 15 rebounds to help Dematha to an 82-55 win over St. Frances. DeMatha took control of the game in the first quarter, outscoring their foes 21-3 to blow the game open early. Oladipo is averaging 10.3 points/game in the season's first four contests, and he'll be back in action Friday night when his team takes on Carroll H.S., which is off to a 4-1 start.
Will Sheehey, 6-6, 190, Sagemont (Fla.) Upper School– An ankle injury has sidelined Will Sheehey for the season's first three games, but according to Sagemont H.S. Coach Adam Ross, Sheehey will make his season debut Thursday night against Boyd Anderson H.S. Sagemont is off to a 3-0 start and is coming off a runner-up finish in the Class 2A state title game last spring. This will mark Sheehey's first game with Sagemont, as he transferred from South Fork H.S. where he averaged 24.4 points and 10.0 rebounds as a junior.
Matt Carlino, 6-2, 180, Bloomington (Ind.) South H.S. - A sluggish first half gave way to a dominant second half effort as unanimous Class 4A No. 1 Bloomington South (2-0) topped Bedford North-Lawrence 71-51 Saturday night. Carlino scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half to go along with three steals and four assists. He was 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc.On the season, Carlino is averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists and is shooting 52 percent from the field (11-of-21) and 62.5 percent from 3-point range (5-of-8).
Austin Etherington,6-6, 190, Hamilton Heights (Ind.) H.S. - Etherington scored 25 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Jordan Rapp's 31 as Guerin Catholic topped Hamilton Heights 68-59 Saturday night. Etherington is averaging 20.3 points/game, but Hamilton Heights is off to disappointing 1-2 start. They'll return to action Friday night against Lewis Cass Tech.
Sophomore D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera made a successful return to the floor, coming off the bench to score 15 points in Class 4A No. 2 North Central's 87-58 win over Lawrence Central. Smith-Rivera had missed more than a month after having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his knee, but showed no ill effects while making all four of his shots from the floor and 6-of-9 at the free-throw line. Lawrence Central sophomore Jeremy Hollowell was limited to three points in the loss…Ron Patterson's Broad Ripple H.S. team seemingly had beaten Class 4A No. 5 Indianapolis Cathedral on a last-second tip-in, but officials waved off the basket after determining it had come after the buzzer and Cathedral escaped with a 42-41 win. Patterson scored 12 points in the loss. A night earlier, Patterson had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead his team to a season-opening 56-44 win over Guerin Catholic. Patterson is averaging 16.0 points/game…Southport H.S. sophomore Kellon Thomas scored 18, but his team dropped a 62-61 decision to Greenfield Central. Southport will take on Matt Carlino and Bloomington South Friday night…Junior Brandon Dawson and Gary Wallace H.S. ruined ‘Luke Harangody Night' at Andrean H.S. over the weekend, topping Coach Carson Cunningham's team 58-22. Dawson nearly outscored Andrean H.S. himself, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds…Cody Zeller had a relatively quiet nine-point, four-rebound performance as Class 2A Washington (3-0) topped North Davies 48-24 over the weekend. Zeller is averaging 15.3 points and 6.0 rebounds…with Jeremiah Davis sitting out due to a one-game suspension, Muncie Central topped 2009 Class 4A state runner-up Ft. Wayne Snider 57-52 over the weekend to improve to 2-1. It's unclear whether or not Davis will be reinstated for Friday night's match-up against Kokomo…Senior Josh Selby scored 18 points in his debut with Lake Clifton-Eastern in Baltimore, leading his team to a 78-47 season-opening win.
