Sheehey, Etherington Have Monster Efforts
Victor Oladipo, 6-4, 100, Dematha Catholic (Md.) H.S. – USA Today's 15th ranked team in the nation improved to 6-0 with back-to-back 70-47 wins over Carroll H.S. and Benedectine H.S. Oladipo scored 10 against Carroll H.S. and nine one night later against Benedectine, and he's now averaging 10.0 points/game on the season. DeMatha returns to action Tuesday when it faces Bishop Ireton.
Will Sheehey, 6-6, 190, Sagemont (Fla.) Upper School– Sheehey has returned from an ankle injury that sidelined him for the season's first three games, and he made his presence felt immediately. On Friday, Sheehey poured in 35 points in a 75-65 Sagemont win over Palmetto H.S. He followed that up by scoring 10 points and adding three steals to help Sagemont (5-1) to a 67-43 win over Gainesville Bucholz on Saturday. Sheehey is averaging 22.5 points/game since his return.
Matt Carlino, 6-2, 180, Bloomington (Ind.) South H.S. - Carlino scored nine of his game-high 18 points in the opening quarter to lead No. 1 South to a 72-43 win over Southport Friday night. Carlino made 7-of-9 shots overall, 4-of-6 from behind the 3-point arc, and also had three rebounds and four assists. Carlino didn't have nearly as big of a night on Saturday as South improved to 4-0 with a 54-42 win over Terre Haute North. The IU-bound junior had five points (2-of-5 shooting), three rebounds and a team-high five assists. On the season, Carlino is averaging 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists and is shooting 57 percent from the field (20-of-35) and 52 percent from behind the 3-point arc (9-of-17).
Austin Etherington,6-6, 190, Hamilton Heights (Ind.) H.S. - Etherington continues to put up big numbers, going off for a career-high 35 to lead Hamilton Heights (3-2) to a 73-62 win over Tri-Central. On Friday, Hamilton Heights topped Lewis Cass Tech 65-47. Etherington is averaging 25.2 points/game and his team will play Western H.S. on Friday.
Other Notables: With Tom Crean in attendance, Gary Wallace junior Branden Dawson scored 20 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead seventh-ranked Class 3A team to a 75-68 win over Class 3A No. 9 Indianapolis Howe on Saturday night…Marquis Teague had 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists in No. 8 Pike's 54-45 win over Brownsburg on Saturday. On Friday, Teague scored 13 of his game-high 31 in the fourth quarter to help Pike to a come-from-behind 70-59 win over Lawrence Central. Pike outscored LC 18-4 in the final quarter to overcome a three-point deficit. Jeremy Hollowell had 14 for Lawrence Central…Avon sophomore Austin Burgett had 17 to lead his team to a 52-35 win over Greenfield-Central…Broad Ripple H.S. improved to 2-1 with an 82-48 win over Cardinal Ritter. Ron Patterson led the way, scoring 17 and adding seven rebounds…Justin Gant had a nice weekend, scoring 18 points and pulling down seven rebounds in Terre Haute North's 54-42 loss to No. 1 Bloomington South Saturday. On Friday, Gant had 20 points in a 54-51 overtime win over Ben Davis…Arden (NC) Christ junior Marshall Plumlee scored seven points in an easy 70-35 win over Asheville H.S. to improve to 9-1. Christ School is ranked No. 22 nationally according to USA Today, with the lone loss coming against No. 2 Findlay (Nev.) Prep…Class 4A No. 2 Indianapolis North Central was upset 83-79 by Carmel over the weekend. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera finished with 10 for North Central, while Carmel sophomore center A.J. Hammons had 11…some early foul trouble couldn't keep Washington (Ind.) junior Cody Zeller from turning in a big game in front of Tom Crean on Friday night. Zeller missed most of the first half due to foul trouble, but still managed to finish with 19 points (9-of-10 shooting), five rebounds and three blocks to lead Class 3A No. 2 Washington to a 61-37 win over Edgewood. Washington is 4-0 and Zeller is averaging 16.2 points/game…Josh Selby had 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in No. 4 Lake Clifton's 35-32 win over Southwestern H.S. on Friday night…Muncie Central junior Jeremiah Davis returned to the court following his one-game suspension, but his team dropped a 70-64 decision to Kokomo to slip to 2-2. Davis finished with 14 points, but missed 11 3-point attempts during the game.
