Decision Day for Boughton?

Bloomington - With official visits to Indiana and Nevada now complete, Fresno City College outside linebacker DeAndre Boughton will make a decision on his college destination soon - potentially as soon as today...

Bloomington – Could a good night's sleep result in good news for the Indiana football program?

Fresh off of official visits to Indiana late last week and Nevada over the weekend, 6'1", 215-pound Fresno City College outside linebacker DeAndre Boughton is closing in a decision between those two schools. As of last night, the plan was to talk to a couple of his coaches and then possibly make a decision in the morning.

"I'm about 50/50 with it," said Boughton, who's narrowed his decision down between those two schools. "By (Tuesday) morning, I feel I'll have a good feeling about it after talking to a couple of people."

Indiana assistant coach Mike Yeager first began recruiting Boughton about two weeks ago, which is right around the same time the Hoosiers began their pursuit of recently committed Jeff Thomas as well. Indiana is looking for a couple of JUCO prospects to fill the void left by the departures of seniors Will Patterson, Matt Mayberry and Justin Carrington, and the staff is hoping Boughton decides to join Thomas in Bloomington.

"Basically, they're telling me (the linebacker spots) are up for grabs, open for the taking," said Boughton.

Boughton appears to have the skills to do just that. An All-Conference pick this fall, he helped his team to a 7-4 record and a win in the State Center Bowl at season's end.

"I think they like my speed and ability to move in space – those are two of my biggest strengths," said Boughton. "I also like to blitz a lot from the inside or outside, and I'm a good cover guy, too. I think I can come up and big, impact plays."

Indiana and Nevada are both hoping he puts those skills to use for their program next fall. Boughton said he came away impressed with both programs and coaching staff's during his recent official visits, and that both have plenty going for them. That's what will make the imminent decision a difficult one.

"Nevada is closer to home and they're on a roll in the WAC conference," Boughton said. "Then you look at Indiana in the Big Ten, you can't go wrong in the Big Ten, one of the best conferences in the country. There's a good chance for exposure to try to get to the next level.

"You can look at it two different ways. It's a hard decision to make, but it needs to be made soon." Top Stories
