Bloomington – If anyone thought former IU assistant coach Roshown McLeod was going to the fan the flames about his recent dismissal, it appears they were misguided.
Five days after being fired by IU Coach Tom Crean, McLeod issued a public statement through a Philadelphia-based public relations agency. The three-sentence comment offered only thanks and well wishes for the IU program and its players.
"I greatly appreciate the opportunity afforded me by Indiana University," McLeod's statement said. "It gave me the chance to work with some amazing student athletes over the last two seasons. I wish the best for IU as they move forward."
Crean announced McLeod's dismissal Sunday, just days before the Big Ten Tournament and less than a week before the end of the season, which came to an end with Thursday's 73-58 loss to Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament. The timing of the firing has produced plenty of speculation about what unfolded to prompt Crean to find it necessary to let McLeod go before the end of the season.
Crean has answered questions about McLeod's firing this week during both the Big Ten Teleconference and again in his press conference leading up to yesterday's Northwestern game, but hasn't divulged any specifics of what all went into the decision.
"My job day in, day out is to make this program better than it was the day before, in every aspect and to get everybody pulling in the same direction all the time," Crean said. "It's a lot easier said than done."
