Richardson talks visit to Ames

Winter Park (FL) High School quarterback and 2011 commit Sam Richardson talks with CSR about everything he did this past weekend during his official visit to Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: Did you come up with by yourself or with some family?

Sam Richardson: I went with my dad and my uncle.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did you do the first night of your visit?

Sam Richardson: I got in and we did dinner and also some bowling. I got to meet some of the players throughout the night. They were great guys and I definitely had a fun time.

Cyclone Sports Report: So then what did you do on Saturday before the game?

Sam Richardson: The other recruits and I went to the academic center to meet with some of the people there and that was real good. I learned about how the team has a G.P.A. that is very impressive. Then we toured the campus and all the facilities including where we will be staying as freshmen next year. The dorms are pretty new and I was really impressed with them. Then later we got to watch the players walk into the stadium and that was real cool to see all the fans gathered there. I then just watched the walk through that the team was doing before the game and I just mostly focused on the quarterbacks.

Cyclone Sports Report: Who was your host for the weekend?

Sam Richardson: Tom Farniok

Cyclone Sports Report: What did you think of the game environment?

Sam Richardson: Sitting in the stands I could see how they really bring the fans out for the home games. All the support shown was really impressive and it was just a lot different then in Florida. It seems like there were more traditions.

Cyclone Sports Report: How similar is the offense that Iowa State runs to what you do down in Florida?

Sam Richardson: It's pretty much exactly what we run and I definitely look forward to running it at Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did you do after the game?

Sam Richardson: I went into the locker and got to hear Coach Rhoads speak with the players. They put us in the middle of the celebration and dumped some water on us. Then we went and talked with some of the coaches. It was a lot of fun.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did you do on Sunday?

Sam Richardson: We all went over to Coach Rhoads for breakfast. He talked with me about how it's going to be when I come up next year and just about the opportunity that I will have at Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: So overall how did things go for the three of you this weekend?

Sam Richardson: Even though I had been up once before I'm really happy I went again because it just makes me feel a lot more comfortable about everything for next year. My uncle is a northern guy so he just loves up there and my dad really liked everything again.
