Five questions with Calvin Godfrey

Cyclone Sports Report talks with freshman Calvin Godfrey on a variety of topics as we near the beginning of the 2010-11 season.

Cyclone Sports Report: There was a lot of speculation this fall about your eligibility. How nice is it to have all of that out of the way and to just be able to play basketball for Iowa State?

Calvin Godfrey: It feels real good and words can't really explain it. I was happy when I got here but then all the speculation was pretty frustrating. It just feels great to be out there playing with my teammates.

Cyclone Sports Report: What are the main ways that you feel that you will help Iowa State this season?

Calvin Godfrey: I feel I can run the floor well for a big man and I think the other two ways that I can help the most are with my rebounding and shot blocking ability.

Cyclone Sports Report: How difficult of a transition has it been for you going from the high school game to the college game?

Calvin Godfrey: It's definitely different than high school and I would say the biggest challenge has been learning the context of the offense. There is a lot to learn but I feel I'm doing okay with the transition.

Cyclone Sports Report: You are one of three freshman post players on the team. What is your relationship like with Jordan Railey and Eric McKnight?

Calvin Godfrey: It's great because we all do something different on the court. We're all real cool with each other and we're all rooming together so we got that bond going also.

Cyclone Sports Report: Does it frustrate you that Iowa State has been picked to finish last in the Big 12 by most of the media?

Calvin Godfrey: It does put a chip on your shoulder but we don't really care what they think. We're just going to play hard and show people what we can do.
