Rufus sets visit to Iowa State

The Iowa State football coaching staff only has a few more spots to fill for their 2010-11 recruiting class. One player they are still considering is Covina (CA) Charter Oak High School's Dennis Rufus and the star wide receiver recently decided to take a visit to Ames next weekend.

"I'm going up to San Jose State for my first official visit this weekend and then I'll be going to Iowa State next weekend," said Rufus. "Coach Elliott was just at my school yesterday and he made an in-home visit right before Christmas break."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver has offers from Iowa State, Fresno State, Idaho, San Diego State, San Jose State, Utah, and is being heavily recruited by Boise State.

Dennis says he has really hit it off with Coach Elliott and can't wait to take his visit to Iowa State.

"He's a really good guy who I know is on my side," said Rufus. "We talk about football and about my classes and he always calls me whenever he is allowed to. I just want to go visit there so I can see what it is like. I don't really like the cold but it's not that big of a deal. I'll play anywhere that I feel comfortable."

Elliott was supposed to see Rufus play live this season but while that did not work out the Iowa State assistant coach has made it very clear to Dennis why they are so interested in him.

"Coach Elliott was supposed to come see me in the playoffs but we lost before he could get out here to see me play," said Rufus. "He told me that what they liked the most about me is how I catch the ball and how I have really good hands. They are recruiting me as a wide receiver but there is a small chance that I could move to defensive back. Since I'll play anywhere it's not really a big deal to me."

So when is Dennis looking to make his final decision?

"I would say in about three weeks," he said. "I might take one more visit after the first two and then I will likely make my decision."
