Cyclones eyeing Texas offensive lineman

One player that the Iowa State coaching staff is targeting early on is Houston (TX) Westside High School's Germain Ifedi.

"Coach Herman came to see me and told my coach that he wanted tape to show Coach Rhoads," said Ifedi. "Then this past Wednesday my coach told me that they had seen my tape and that they were offering me a scholarhsip."

The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle now currently holds scholarship offers from Missouri, Mississippi State, Memphis, Colorado, Iowa State, and Baylor.

He told Cyclone Sports Report that he has no favorites at the moment but that he will definitely be giving Iowa State serious consideration.

"I will be considering all my options and they are definitely in the running," said Ifedi. "I'm going to be calling Coach Rhoads soon and from what I know he seems to have them heading in the right direction and is really doing a good job of turning things around."

Germain feels that having these early scholarship offers is completely due to a change in attitude.

"It's exciting because at this time last year I had no idea what was going on," he said. "I needed to find my place because I didn't know if I would mainly play offensive line or defensive line. My mind wasn't all there and my work ethic was not where it needed to be. So then last summer I got things together by working out a lot. I was able to get rid of my baby fat and added a lot of muscle."

Germain has been on unofficial visits to Baylor and Texas A&M and he told CSR that one factor will play a big part in his decision making process.

"I'm just looking for a good system where they can put me in a good spot to have success," he said. "Probably what is most important is that I have a chance to get early playing time. I don't mean that I have to start my first year but I definitely want the chance to compete for early playing time."
