Iowa State targeting California linebacker

Cyclone Sports Report talks with Anaheim (CA) Servite High School middle linebacker Butch Pauu.

CSR: How did Iowa State start recruiting you?

Butch Pauu: Coach Elliott came and saw me play and then him and Coach Rhoads came by my school for a visit.

CSR: What schools do you have offers from?

Butch Pauu: The three schools are Iowa State, BYU, and Washington.

CSR: What did Coach Elliott tell you that they liked about you?

Butch Pauu: He said that they liked that I'm agile and that I can run. I'm only 6-foot, 215 pounds but their okay with the fact that I'm not the typical 6-foot-2, 230-pounder because they said the game is changing with so many teams going to spread offenses. They need more linebackers that can get to the receiver and re-route them and I have the speed to do that.

CSR: Have you taken any visits yet?

Butch Pauu: No because I have spring ball right now but I'll likely take my visits during the summer. I would like to take one to Iowa State if possible.

CSR: What will be the most important parts in your decision making on a final school?

Butch Pauu: The academics of the school will be a big factor and just the whole atmosphere around the school. I also will look at the staff and check out the defensive coaches and their experience and how my relationship is with the linebackers coach. The last key factor would be playing as early as possible. I don't mind having to compete for a spot but I definitely want to get on the field as quickly as possible.
