Niang very excited to be a Cyclone

Iowa State opened up its 2012 recruiting class with a bang by landing Tilton Prep School (NH) power forward Georges Niang. Cyclone Sports Report caught up with Georges to find out what led to his decision.

Cyclone Sports Report: How did you go about making your decision?

Georges Niang: I called Coach Hoiberg at about 3pm today and I kind of joked with him at first. I told him that when I woke up this morning I had a feeling that today was going to be a good day. Then I told him that I was committing to him and he got really pumped up. Both of us were just really excited.

Cyclone Sports Report: What were the biggest factors in you choosing Iowa State?

Georges Niang: The chance to play right away was a big factor but really Coach Hoiberg was the main reason. His style fits the way I play the game and he has believed in me from day one. He's just a real genuine guy and he has always been honest with me.

Cyclone Sports Report: Have you stayed in touch with some of the Iowa State players since your visit?

Georges Niang: Yeah, I have talked with Chris Babb and Royce White and I know how dedicated they are to winning. That had a huge impact on my decision.

Cyclone Sports Report: How excited are you that you will be joining a roster that will be expected to win a lot of games?

Georges Niang: It was a big factor and with Coach Hoiberg bringing in guys like Korie Lucious to run the show my freshman year I just get really excited. He just keeps bringing in great players and so I really feel we will be able to win a lot of games.

Cyclone Sports Report: Are you happy to have your decision over and done with?

Georges Niang: It's funny because I would say that I caught myself waiting. I knew Iowa State was the place for me after my visit but I just felt I needed to wait. I didn't think that feeling was true and I didn't believe people when they would say that but it really is true. The right place for me is with Coach Hoiberg and Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: What are you looking to improve on over the next year before you officially become a Cyclone?

Georges Niang: I really want to be in the best shape of my life. Someone told me that the two keys to playing in college are always playing with a lot of confidence and being in the best shape that you can be. I want to be able to run with the best of them and belly up with other big guys down low so I'm just going to really work on my quickness and building up my body.
