Gibson talks commitment to Iowa State

Cyclone Sports Report talks with Detroit (MI) Southeastern High School's Percy Gibson on why he chose to play his basketball at Iowa State. The 6-foot-9-inch, 240-pound center became the final piece of Iowa State's 2011 recruiting class when he signed with the Cyclones on Saturday.

Cyclone Sports Report: Why did you ultimately choose Iowa State?

Percy Gibson: After I visited the campus I just felt it was the right place for me. I guess it was just a hunch but when I saw how nice the community was I just knew it was the right decision.

Cyclone Sports Report: How much of a factor was new Cyclone assistant coach Cornell Mann who had helped get you to commit to Dayton earlier this year?

Percy Gibson: It was definitely a factor because he was heavily involved in my recruitment with Dayton and him and I have really built a strong relationship.

Cyclone Sports Report: How much of your decision was based on the fact that you would have a very good chance to play early at Iowa State?

Percy Gibson: It was kind of a factor but I really just like the style that they play. They like to run and get it out in transition and that kind of style is very easy to like.

Cyclone Sports Report: Can you describe your game for Iowa State fans?

Percy Gibson: I would like to say that I have a multi-faceted game but I would say my biggest strength is when I play down low with my back to the basket. I really like to get down on the right block and use my lefty hook.

Cyclone Sports Report: Do you know Michigan State transfers Chris Allen and Korie Lucious?

Percy Gibson: Yeah, I went up there and actually worked out with them when they were at Michigan State. They are cool guys and I look forward to playing with them.

Cyclone Sports Report: What is your relationship like with Coach Hoiberg?

Percy Gibson: It's great and all I can say is that Coach Hoiberg is just a really humble guy. All he wanted to do was talk about was the program instead of all the accolades that he received as a player in college and the NBA.

Cyclone Sports Report: How happy are you to be done with your recruitment?

Percy Gibson: Now that it's over I will have a lot less stress. It's been a long process but I definitely feel like I'm in a better situation now.
