Cyclone Sports Report talks with The Woodlands (TX) High School's Mitchell Meyers on what led to his commitment to Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: When did Iowa State start recruiting you?

Mitchell Meyers: A couple of weeks ago Coach Herman call me a few days before they couldn't call us anymore and he told me that the Iowa State staff was going to be looking at my tape. He had seen me practice and he told me to call him back in a few weeks. That got me real interested in them so I started doing some research on Iowa State. When I called him back he told me that they were offering me a scholarship and I also talked with Coach Rhoads that night also.

Cyclone Sports Report: So what led to the commitment?

Mitchell Meyers: I came up to Iowa State this past weekend and I just loved it. On Friday my parents went all over Ames. We toured the facilities, the campus, and the academic building. Everything was no nice and we all just love the city of Ames.

Cyclone Sports Report: What were other factors?

Mitchell Meyers: All the coaches were just great and even though I like their facilities I like that they are getting new ones.

Cyclone Sports Report: What is your current height and weight and what did the coaches like most about your abilities at defensive end?

Mitchell Meyers: I'm 6-foot-4 and I weigh 240 pounds. They actually recruited me to play defensive tackle. They told me that a lot of Big 12 teams play the spread and that they need athletic defensive tackles so they plan on putting weight on me. They want to get me up to between 270 and 280 pounds.

Cyclone Sports Report: Has it been a dream for you to play in the Big 12?

Mitchell Meyers: Yeah, my parents both went to the University of Texas so I have always loved the Big 12. My cousin goes to Baylor and my brother will be going to Texas A&M. I love the fact that I will be getting to play in the Big 12.

Cyclone Sports Report: What are your thoughts on Coach Rhoads?

Mitchell Meyers: I think he's doing a great job with the program. He seems to be taking it to a new level and I want to be a part of it. He's real down-to-earth and I'm just excited to play for him.

Cyclone Sports Report: Are you already looking to set up your official visit?

Mitchell Meyers: I don't have a date set yet but I definitely will be setting it up. Another one of their commitments is Quan West and he goes to school near me and we have been talking and we want to try and take our official visit together.
