Maurice Russell: I got it about three weeks ago. Coach Wally Burnham is the main guy who has been recruiting me. He came down for my spring game and we have stayed in contact.
Cyclone Sports Report: What other offers do you have?
Maurice Russell: I also have Ball State, Indiana, USF, South Alabama, and Western Kentucky.
Cyclone Sports Report: What do the Iowa State coaches see as your strengths as a player?
Maurice Russell: The Iowa State coaches like that I'm very aggressive when I'm going to the ball. I can also rush the quarterback even though I play inside linebacker. Last year I had 5 sacks and also led my team in tackles.
Cyclone Sports Report: Iowa State has also offered your teammate Jamie Willis. Do you feel that you guys are a package deal?
Maurice Russell: He's actually my teammate and my cousin so we are very close. Right now it's really up in the air. We would like to play college together but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. If we both find a school that we really like then we will play together but right now I'm not sure what will happen.
Cyclone Sports Report: Iowa State will likely have a senior and two juniors starting at linebacker this year so all three will be gone in the next year or two. Have the coaches discussed with you about how you would have a very good opportunity to come in and play right away?
Maurice Russell: Yeah, It would be a good situation for me because I want to step on the field and play as soon as possible.
Cyclone Sports Report: Have you taken any visits yet?
Maurice Russell: No, not yet but I plan to and I'm hoping to make it up to Iowa State in the fall for one of their games.
Cyclone Sports Report: Do you know any of the Iowa State players from Florida?
Maurice Russell: Yeah, I know Donald Smith and Jeremiah George a little bit and I plan on talking with them about Iowa State.
Cyclone Sports Report: When do you expect to make a final decision and what will be the most important factors?
Maurice Russell: I will probably make my decision during the end of the summer. A good education is the most important factor for me. It would be nice to be close to home so my family could come to my games but that's not really that important because I'm willing to out of state if that's the best fit.
